Discover the World Heritage Sites in the colonial cities of GranadaLeón, Comayagua, and Esquipulas, jewels of the Spanish architecture in Central America. Enjoy National Parks such as Masaya volcano, Mombacho volcano, and Blue Hill Meambar, as well as the pre-Columbian Ruins of Copán.

Day 1

In the morning, meet with your guide at the reception of your hotel and transfer to Granada. En route, visit to the Masaya Volcano National Park, Nicaragua‘s first biggest national park. Continue to Granada, the oldest colonial town in Nicaragua, and said to be one of the most beautiful in Central America. Accommodations for two nights in Granada.

Day 2

Known as La Gran Sultana, Granada offers many interesting buildings from the colonial era. During our city tour, admire old colonial houses and important buildings like the San Francisco Convent or Guadeloupe Church. Afternoon free at leisure to enjoy the beautiful city. Many alternative  excursions can be organized, for example a visit to the  Mombacho Volcano.

Day 3

Transfer to the city of León driving along Lake Managua. Visit to the Ruins of León Viejo, one of the oldest Spanish colonial settlements in the Americas.  Visit to the center of León with its famous cathedral, built between 1747 and 1814. Accommodations in León.

 

 

Day 4

Depart León for the Honduran border driving along the Maribios mountain range. After a scenic drive, we will reach Tegucigalpa in the afternoon. Tegucugalpa is Honduras’ capital and the country’s cultural and intelectual center. Accommodations for two nights in Tegucigalpa.

Day 5

After breakfast, transfer to Lake Yojoa. On the way, visit to Comayagua, Honduras’ former capital. Visit to the impressive Pulhapanzak Waterfalls before driving up to the Cerro Azul Meambar National Park. Accommodations in Panacam, at the visitor’s centre.

Day 6

After an early hike through the rainforest transfer to Honduras’ second largest city and economic center, San Pedro Sula. Visit to the small anthropological museum and the colourful Guamilito market, where vegetables, fruits, and all kinds of regional handcrafts are offered. Continue to Copán Ruinas. Accommodations for two nights in Copán.

 

Day 7

30-minute walk to the nearby Copán Archaeological Park. It was the main cultural center of the Mayan region due to its advanced development of sculpture, astronomy, and hieroglyphic writing. Later, visit to the sepulchres, located at about 2 km from the main site.

Day 8

The Maya civilization developed is one of the biggest of the history of humankind. Representing the southeastern boundary of what forms the Mundo Maya corridor, Copán becomes the artistic crowning glory of the Mayas. Early in the morning, transfer to La Antigua Guatemala. Accommodations for two nights in La Antigua.

Day 9

In 1979 La Antigua Guatemala was registered in the UNESCO World Heritage list as an outstanding example of preserved colonial architecture and cultural value. During our tour we will visit the Main Square, the Cathedral, the Capuchinas Convent, the San Francisco and La Merced churches, as well as other vestiges of the colonial era.

Day 10

Transfer to Guatemala City. Bordered by a lake, forested mountains, and four volcanoes, the city has its own special charm. If there is enough time, we will tour Guatemala’s capital before we depart to the airport in time for your international departure flight. End of program.

Light colored cotton clothing is essential when you visit the Caribbean coast and other lowland areas. Sweaters or a jacket are a must if you are staying in the mountains.
