This beach is known for a famous rock shaped as a pig that you´ll find at the seashore, and that for years has seen generations of surfers pass by, who have grown and practiced surfing in this territory. You can say that everyone that has practiced surfing in the country, has visited this emblematic beach. It has volcanic sand and the drain of Rio Grande, known as La Bocana del Tunco.
If you are a surf lover, this beach is ideal for it, as it characterizes for having high swells.
In El Tunco, you´ll find a variety of food establishments, accommodations, and bars, so, if you are searching for maximum fun, at the Tamanique municipality, at Playa El Tunco, you´ll definitely find it. Enjoy an incomparable ambiance, with great music of the restaurants and bars; you can taste amazing national and international dishes, which serve fresh seafood.
How to get there?
If you´re travelling by car, you must take the highway to the Port in La Libertad, and then take the highway to the Littoral going West, until you find Km. 42.5, from where you can see the entry sign to El Tunco.
If you´re travelling in public transportation, you can take de 102, 107 or 177 routes, the ticket costs $1.50. The trip is 1 hour approximately. The buses leave every twenty minutes, starting at 6:00am until 7:00pm, from the Simon Bolivar Park in San Salvador.
