Providencia and San Gerardo de Dota
An ideal destination for bird watching
Both the town of Providencia and the town of San Gerardo de Dota belong to the Los Santos area, recognized for the high quality of its coffee and its particularly beautiful landscapes. This area is located in the Cerro de la Muerte or Hill of Death, in the Province of San José, although it is accessible from the city of Cartago.
Until very recently, the area was recognized as one of the most important and new tourist destinations in the country, especially for bird watchers and bird watching specialists, as it is a very important nesting site for the Quetzal. Among the attractions of the area is the Savegre River, which source is in the Hill of Death, runs towards the Pacific Ocean, and has been recognized as the cleanest river in the American continent along with three beautiful waterfalls. Both towns also have attractions such as trout fishing, horse riding, mountain hotels, and treks between forests and trails, among others, which are visited by both domestic and foreign tourists.
