La Flor Wildlife Refuge
The Playa La Flor Wildlife Refuge is located about 25 kms. southeast of San Juan del Sur, Rivas, is one of the most famous beaches in this municipality. This beach was declared a Wildlife Refuge due to the arrival of paslama turtles every year between the months of July and January to nest.
During this nesting season, thousands of female turtles invade La Flor beach at night to lay their eggs. This phenomenon is called “arribadas”, and it occurs repeatedly. Approximately 50 days after each arrival, the birth of massive hatchlings occurs, which immediately seek the sea. Both events can be appreciated at La Flor beach.
