Kaminal Juyu
Hill of the Dead
Kaminal Juyú (Hill of the Dead) is the most important pre-Hispanic center in the central area of the country. It was a busy center for more than 2,000 years during the late pre-classic Mayan period. It represents the period of greatest demographic, economic, social, architectural and artistic heyday.
On this site, is located the “La Culebra” hill, which was an extensive elevated irrigation waterway that reached 5 kilometers long. It became the most extensive system in all Mesoamerica. This place is appropriate for recreation and trekking activities.
It is located within the limits of the city of Guatemala, which makes it an accessible site for visitors.
