Tortuguero Canals
The amazons of Costa Rica
The Tortuguero Canals represent the second largest wetland in the country, and is considered by many visitors as the Amazon of Costa Rica for its natural richness, and great biodiversity. It is located in the northern area of the Costa Rican Caribbean, and you can only access the area by boat or plane, since there are no roads.
The town of Tortuguero lies between the canals and the open sea, and is the only town in the area where you can find several hotels along the canals. Tortuguero is undoubtedly a magical place for bird watching, since you can find more than 400 different species. It is also a unique place to enjoy an exceptional experience immersed in nature. It is also the nesting place of the most important green turtle in the country, especially between March and October.
