San Pedro Sula
MODERNITY, CULTURE AND COLONIALISM IN HONDURAS
San Pedro Sula, known as the Industrial Capital of Honduras, was founded as a Villa on June 27, 1536, with the name of Villa de San Pedro de Puerto Caballos. The city is also known as the City of the Zorzales due to its large amount of birds and the bird song.
San Pedro Sula has modern convention centers, and offers different accommodation options and restaurants for your choice. The industrial capital has positioned itself as a suitable destination for MICE, with facilities to hold conferences, conventions, and expos.
You can take a tour of San Pedro Sula that departs from the Central Park, visiting the San Pedro Apóstol Cathedral, and just at a short distance, the nearby Museum of Anthropology, and the Plaza Típica, where you will find traditional foods and handicrafts. The city also has a wonderful theater where you can enjoy national and international talents. Its nightlife offers something for all tastes.
Because of San Pedro Sula’s location, it is easy to travel to the beaches of Puerto Cortés, Omoa, Mile 3 and Masca, in Puerto Cortés. At the same time, at the entrance of the city we will find the Alvarado Lagoon, a place where you can observe species of the wetlands, and practice artisanal fishing. The municipal beaches are on one side of the city, and in front of these are several hotels and restaurants. Only 20 minutes away you can visit Omoa, where the colonial fortress of San Fernando de Omoa was built at the end of the 18th century, to counteract and repel the attacks of the pirates that ravaged Puerto Real, located opposite from the triangular-plan fortress, which makes it unique.
