Located at an altitude of more than 1700 meters above sea level, it is the highest Departmental Capital, and in turn, the highest city in the country, it is recognized thanks to its climate, which is pleasant, and cold for Honduran standards and for being home to Lenca culture It is also known as “The City of the White Mantle” for its mists in the winter season.
Among its tourist attractions are the Lenca looms, pottery, the “dwarf” forest, beautiful landscapes and Canopy; It is a tourist destination that offers a lively culture. Among its attractions is mentioned “The Grotto”, which is also a viewpoint. It is a cave, a short distance from the center of the city, the Lenca Culture Museum, where visitors can find a variety of handmade products, as well as learn about the history of the Lenca Culture. On the outskirts of the city, just a few kilometers from these cities the visitor can appreciate a peculiar “dwarf forest”, which is an attraction in itself. These small trees that impress their visitors when they take a tour that leads them to discover a series of small shrubs that are over 300 years old. In the El Cacao village, visitors can appreciate indigenous women in their looms, weaving the characteristic fabrics that enclose a lot of tradition.
