It is located in the crater of the volcano of the same name, located 28 k from the head of the department of Quetzaltenango, is the ideal tourist destination for those who like nature and adventure. It is considered a magical place in Guatemala, since inside this volcano grows lush vegetation with unique colors, which looks like a masterpiece that has been painted by great painters.
A Mayan legend narrates that on the slope of the Chicabal volcano there was a sacred lagoon where the locals bathed and washed their clothes, a situation that annoyed the mountain and caused it to dry up due to their lack of respect. Repentant, they made Mayan ceremonies to ask for the drought to end and after a while a loud thunder was heard and the next morning, the natives discovered that in the middle of the crater of the volcano there was a lagoon which they called Chicabal.
This lagoon is a cosmic meeting point for the Mayas of the Man and Quiché ethnic groups, where Mayan rituals and ceremonies are held, so it is considered a sacred place. To make the tour is recommended to hire the services of spiritual tour guides to make a walk full of mysticism on the shores of the lagoon, which is surrounded by a cloud forest that is the habitat of hundreds of birds, reptiles, mammals and amphibians that make the experience truly extraordinary.
