Museum of the Vegan Carnival, La Vega
Different, unique and identifying, characterizing and differentiating one territory from another
The Dominican carnival represents a very important element in the promotion and encouragement of Dominican culture, having an impact both locally in the provinces of the country, as well as nationally. Each expression of it is different, unique and identity, characterizing and differentiating one territory from another, showing native elements, fragrances, smells and craftsmanship of the hand of hundreds of men and women who work in the preparation of these beautiful folkloric costumes, both for local and international entertainment according to the time in which they perform the manifestations. One of the most recognized in the country is the carnival of La Vega, located in the north of the Dominican Republic, just 1 hour and 30 minutes from Santo Domingo.
This has a museum dedicated to it called El Museo Carnaval Vegano and is a space that receives the history and evolution of this folkloric tradition of the city of La Vega. It is located in the Don Zoilo building, built at the end of the 19th century, in the heart of the city. Here you can find an explanatory manifestation of a tourist experience, which exhibits costumes, elements, and other details that marked and still mark the carnival in La Vega and the Dominican Republic.
