Cacao Trail (Duarte Province and Santo Domingo Province)
A wide range of gastronomy, traditional dishes, tourist experiences on the production of the dishes
The Dominican Republic offers a wide gastronomy, ranging from the preparation of traditional dishes, to tourist experiences focused on the production of these dishes, or agronomic items. Cocoa is one of the most important products, since the Taino times, being part of the Dominican culture and history. Cocoa plantations, which cover 10% of the green area of the Dominican Republic, are vital for the protection of our environment. They are home to a multitude of endemic species and contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of farm workers, as well as to the economic growth of the country.
The cocoa experiences allow the visitor (for the whole family) to learn about the history of cocoa in the Dominican territory (this in the case of the Chocolate Museum in Santo Domingo, Kah Kow Experience), how it is planted, how it is harvested, what products are made from it beyond the chocolate tables (this in the nature trail of cocoa plantations in the Duarte province), all this, by warm words of men and women who work in this segment. Visiting this trail in the Duarte province, we see how this tourist experience impacts the community, since they are proposals made by people from the same territory, equalizing the same conditions at the level of gender in both men and women.
