Cerro Verde National Park
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL NATURE SHELTERED BY YOUNG VOLCANOES
The Cerro Verde National Park is a beautiful park offering pleasant temperature, which has beautiful trails shaded by the most diverse species of plants and trees.
Cerro Verde has a wonderful orchid garden, and spectacular viewpoints from which you can admire the majestic volcanoes of Izalco and Santa Ana (Ilamatepeq), as well as Lake Coatepeque, and the towns such as Juayúa, Nahuizalco, and the historic Acajutla with its beautiful port.
At 2,030 meters above sea level, the park is also an excellent place for bird watching, and for walking on trails, picnics, outdoor games, or simply to rest in a hammock under the shade of the leafy trees, while children climb, descend and jump between games.
For those who like to walk, this natural site is also a very good option. There are three trails that can be taken, accompanied by a guide: one that leads to the Santa Ana volcano, another to the Izalco volcano, and one that runs through the park.
The flora of this area identifies the plant formation as nebulous forests, or cold zone vegetation. The flora is exuberant, always green due to the high humidity of the soil and the air, resulting from the constant mist and the frequent rains.
Many animals find refuge in this reserve, registering about 127 species of birds. One of them, the Guardabarranco, is considered one of the five best songbirds in the world.
