Santa Maria de la Nueva Valladolid of Comayagua, or just Comayagua, was founded by order of the Adelantado de Yucatan. Thus on December 8, 1537, on behalf of King Carlos I of Spain and Maria Santisima de la Concepcion, took over the north side of town.

Situated at an altitude of approximately 550 meters above mean sea level and in the middle of a huge valley, surrounded by majestic mountains, Comayagua is built in accordance with the old Spanish system, based on a central square formed by buildings that resemble the rich History of Honduras.

Stand out the Cathedral, the churches of La Merced, La Caridad, San Francisco and San Sebastian, as well as the Bishop See and the Archaeological Museum of Comayagua, which at the time were the Presidential Palace, the National Congress and the Supreme Court of Justice Palace.

The accommodation provided is mostly modest.

Getting There:

It is a city easily accessible, as the country's main road passes through one side of the city, communicating conveniently with the cities of Tegucigalpa (about 80 km away to the south) and San Pedro Sula (about 140 km away to the north).
