Dos Pilas is a true paradise for archaeologists, historians as this archeological site has 400 mounds, highlighting the highest "El Duende", although most of them continue today under study and excavation.
Description and main attractions
Recently (in 2002) 18 steps of a temple hidden in the jungle were discovered, which have narrative inscriptions of major historical events focusing on the first 23 years of the first king of Dos Pilas called Balaj Chan K'awil and the alleged clashes between brothers.
This site is recommended for visitors who have a purely historical interest, because if what you want is to see archaeological sites with restored temples is more appropriate to visit the area of Aguateca.
Another attraction of Dos Pilas are its caves, which surround the city and were used by the Maya as ceremonial sites where they practice and offered supernatural rituals.
